Haverhill Fire Department Training

All newly appointed Haverhill firefighters are required to successfully complete the 11-week recruit training course at the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow. New recruits are trained in all aspects of firefighting such as fire attack, water supply, hydraulics, ventilation and ladder operations. The recruits are trained in a classroom setting as well as in realistic fire situations in a live fire training building located at the academy.

Upon completion of the academy, the firefighters are then assigned to a truck as probationary firefighters. All firefighters are then trained in a continuing education process coordinated by the training office of the Haverhill fire department. This training includes drills in all aspects of firefighting as well as continued education in emergency medical care.
