Civil Service Information

Go to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Civil Service Examination Schedule.

Civil Service Applications can be picked up in the Human Resources Office at City Hall, Room 306, between
8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If you would like to be placed on the City of Haverhill's mailing list for one of the following civil service exams,
please email the Human Resources Office using the form below. Be sure to include your full name, mailing address, and the exam in which you are interested. Once we receive notification from HRD of the exam date, we will mail out a copy of the announcement along with an application.

Labor Service:
Labor Service positions are filled through the Labor Service registration, where applicants are placed on waiting lists and ranked in order of registration date, with qualified veterans going ahead of non-veterans. Read a list of Labor Service job titles with entrance requirements. The list is also available in the HR Office at City Hall (Room 306).

Official Service:
Official Service jobs are those which generally require an examination and includes most clerical, custodial, fire and police positions. These positions typically are filled on a permanent basis primarily as the result of open competitive exams administered by the Massachusetts Human Resources Division.
