Lunches at the Center:
Are you aware that lunches are served at the Citizens Center Monday through Friday from 11:15-11:30 a.m. ? If you've not joined us, or it's been a while, we'd like to welcome you to come share a meal with old friends- or make some new friends. If you are new, stop by and get your senior ID card and get a lunch number. If it's been awhile, stop in to check your number.

Meals are pre-ordered, so you need to sign up for meals by Thursday prior to when you want to eat- Maryjane will be glad to help you with this. The meal is always a full entree and menus are posted ahead of time in the Silver Star, Saturday Weekly Gazette, Monday Eagle Tribune and sometimes on cable TV. It's a super deal for a suggested donation of $2.00. Always remember that good conversation and friendships make meals that much better.

Meal on Wheels:
Meals on Wheels are designed to provide a hot meal five days a week to Haverhill residents who, because of physical limitations, are unable to prepare meals for themselves. Cost of home-delivered meals is a 25-cent delivery charge per day plus $2.00 for the meal. Meals are usually delivered between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Food Stamps:
The Food Stamp Program should not be considered as "Welfare." It is a program supported by the US Dept. of Agriculture, Mass. Dept. of Public Health and also the Mass. Dept. of Public Welfare. It is designed to assist those eligible through difficult times even if they:

• Own their home
• Are working
• Have saved some money
• Have a car
• Receive unemployment insurance
• Are a single person
• Have no children
• Have life insurance

You do not have to be on welfare to apply for food stamps.

You can get an application by calling the Food stamp Information Line 1-800-645-8333 or by visiting your nearest public welfare office, who will set up an appointment for an interview. If you are unable to come to the office, you may be allowed to have another adult apply for you or if you are 65 or older or disabled, a home visit or telephone interview if there is no one to go to the office for you. Food stamp workers are available at the counter on Thursdays from 11am to 1pm.
