Outreach:
One of our primary functions is to assist elders with the problems,
questions, and difficult situations which they may encounter. We have
trained Outreach Aides, Minority Outreach workers and volunteers who can
provide assistance, information and referral to seniors (and their
family members in regard to their elderly relative) needing help with
insurance, housing, fuel assistance, nutrition, government forms and
more. One-to-one confidential counseling sessions can be held in the office,
by phone or in the home. Call to make an appointment to obtain this outreach
assistance.

Silver Star Newsletter:
The COA publishes a free monthly newsletter, The Silver Star, which contains
the latest updates on events, information and services being offered to
elders in Haverhill. Distributed the first of each month, The Silver Star
is available at the Center, elderly housing sites, and many other locations
throughout the city. If you would like to have The Silver Star mailed
to your home each month, contact the COA and ask to be placed on the newsletter
mailing list. The Silver Star is also available on tape, by request.

Spirituality Program:
- promotes spirituality and outreach with the religious community
- improves elders' access to available religious services
- offers spiritual programs to elder housing residents and nursing
homes
- enlists the aid of clergy to provide training for staff and volunteers
in identifying spiritual needs of elders within the elder network.
- runs an appropriate interfaith referral process that is sensitive
and non-intrusive.
- provides a monthly educational interfaith Community Cable TV Program,
presented by Haverhill clergy, that addresses issues of importance to
elders and their families.
Our Spirituality Aide is available to assist Volunteer
Coordinators from churches and other community organizations to: organize,
develop train and provide leadership to their volunteers who provide services
to isolated, frail homebound elders. Such services may include: visiting,
writing letters, telephone reassurance, transportation to medical appointments,
delivery of groceries, delivery of prescriptions and other medicines.

Telephone/Friendly Visitor Reassurance Program:
A little lonesome? If you are homebound, you might like a weekly or
a daily phone call/visit to help you keep in touch. Volunteers, supervised by
the COA Aides, make calls/visits on a scheduled basis. This program brings
pleasure and companionship to both parties.
