HUMAN SERVICES > COMMISSION ON DISABILITY ISSUES

Telephone: 978-374-2387 (Voice/TTY) or
978-374-2388 x34
Disabilities/ADA
CoOrdinator:
Brian Langlois
Address: Haverhill Citizen Center
10 Welcome Street, Room 13
Haverhill, MA 01830

Statement:

We are a commission, all appointed by the mayor, who volunteer our time and skills to represent and ensure equal treatment for the disabled citizens of our community.

We educate people on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as well as state regulations related to persons with disabilities. We advocate in critical areas such as:

  • Housing,
  • Employment,
  • Education,
  • Transportation,
  • Voting,
  • Communication,
  • Health services,
  • Public accommodations, and
  • Access to programs, services, and facilities that are available.

Some 59 million Americans have a disability and the numbers are growing. Individuals with disabilities are a group that have been faced with restrictions and limitations. They have a history of unequal treatment and political powerlessness. The stereotyped assumptions that people with disabilities face are not indicative of their ability to participate in and contribute to their community.

How to Help:

  • Let us know what your needs are as an individual or a group
  • Attend meetings
  • Make a financial donation
  • Volunteer your time
