Mayor James J. Fiorentini > Press Release For Immediate Release: March 30, 2007 Mayor Fiorentini Names Bob Gablosky April Artist of the Month Mayor James J. Fiorentini today named award-winning artist Bob Gablosky Haverhill’s Artist of the Month for April. Fiorentini will present Gablosky, a 1948 Haverhill High School graduate and Haverhill resident, with an official citation on Tuesday, April 3, at 2:30 pm, at his office in City Hall. Fiorentini said:
Mr. Gablosky’s oil paintings, many of which hang in collections in Greater Haverhill, throughout the country and abroad, have appeared in numerous area exhibits. In 1972, Mr. Gablosky founded the Greater Haverhill Arts Association, which today boasts nearly 200 members. He also co-founded the Haverhill Arts Commission. His awards include Revere Bowls for Most Popular Work of Art in an exhibit in 1974, 1987, 1987 from the Haverhill Public Library. Mr. Gablosky served in the Navy for four years, where he first began painting, using paint-by-the-numbers kits. After the Navy and for 28 years, he worked for the Haverhill Gazette as a reporter, city editor and news editor. He earned his Massachusetts State certification for teaching in the subjects of commercial and academic art from Fitchburg State College. The Haverhill Artist of Month was created by Mayor Fiorentini to foster Haverhill’s thriving art community. Haverhill artists interested in being considered for Artist of the Month can submit copies of their work and artist’s statement to the Mayor’s Office. |
