Mayor James J. Fiorentini > Press Release September 5, 2007 Private Donation Provides Temporary Bleachers for Haverhill Stadium HAVERHILL- Mayor James J. Fiorentini announced that he has secured private donations for temporary bleachers for use at Haverhill Stadium. The private anonymous donation will pay for long-term rental of 270 seats worth of metal bleachers, primarily for use during the upcoming Haverhill High Football season. This seating will also be handicapped-accessible. The seating should be in place for the Friday night home opener against Malden High School on September 7. The temporary seating is needed as the regular stadium grandstand is off-limits due to the renovation and ongoing construction work being done at historic Haverhill Stadium. It is hoped that the refurbished grandstand will be open again by the November 9 Homecoming game and the Thanksgiving Day game against Lowell.
The donation was made anonymously. Without temporary bleachers in place, all fans would have to stand throughout stadium activities and games, without any accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Other examples of public-private partnerships include the construction of the municipal bocce court and advertising on city school buses to generate revenue. For more information, contact Haverhill High School Athletic Director Peter Shanahan at 978-374-5700 or the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Andrew Herlihy at 978-374-2300. |
