June 18, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Mayor Names Search Committee to Choose New Highway Superintendent

Mayor James J. Fiorentini today named a search committee to assist in the selection of a Highway Superintendent. Mayor Fiorentini said that his goal is to find the best qualified professional to help reorganize the Highway Department in Haverhill and restore public confidence in that department.

Fiorentini said that the search committee will be headed by Robert L. Moylan, long time Superintendent of Public Works in the City of Worcester. Fiorentini called Moylan: “A nationally recognized leader of Public Works Departments.”

Mr. Moylan is an engineer who graduated for the University of Massachusetts. He is the vice president of the association of DPW directors in Massachusetts, which is called the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association

In 1988 he received the nation’s leading award from the American Public Works Association which named him as one of the ten outstanding D.P.W. Professionals in the country.

Also on the search committee will be former Haverhill Water and Wastewater Director William Pauk and Personnel Director, Mary Carrington. Mr. Pauk is an engineer who currently works for Camp, Dresser and McKee in Manchester, N.H. and is a Haverhill resident. Ms. Carrington is the longtime Personnel Director for the City of Haverhill.

Fiorentini said that all members of the committee have agreed to serve without compensation. The search committee will review all applications and narrow the list to three choices which will be sent to the Mayor. The final decision on the Director will be left to the Mayor, who, under our city charter, the sole appointing authority for the City.

In making the announcement, Mayor Fiorentini stated:

“With our limited budget it is critical that our Highway and Parks Department run at maximum possible efficiency. In order to do that, we need to bring in the most competent qualified professional to reorganize this department. I have assembled this highly qualified team to assist me in making this decision.”

Fiorentini said that it was his hope to have a new director on board by Labor Day.
