Mayor Declares Haverhill State of Emergency Due to Flooding
Mayor James J. Fiorentini today declared a state of emergency in Haverhill due to flooding.
Mayor Fiorentini, who personally inspected the affected areas along River Street and Coffin Avenue, said that the state of emergency would allow him to fund emergency overtime and evacuations if it became necessary.
The Mayor ordered the Citizen Center in Haverhill to remain open in the evening in the event that residents are evacuated and need shelter.
Through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the Mayor arranged for sandbags to be brought to the City and to be made available to residents. The Mayor ordered sandbags distributed along River Street and Orchard Avenue and set in place a provision for voluntary evacuation of residents in the Groveland Estates area of Orchard Avenue.
Mayor Fiorentini has also established the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for those who have questions and issues with flooding and emergency management. The telephone number for the EOC is 978-722-1501.
