Mayor Fiorentini Convenes Discussion of Gateway Cities Report
Mayor Seeking Lessons to Be Gleaned from Report for Haverhill’s Continued Renewal

Mayor James J. Fiorentini has organized meeting for Thursday, April 5, from 3 to 4:30 pm, at Haverhill City Hall to discuss the lessons that can be learned from a MassINC and Brookings Institution report which included Haverhill.  The report: “Reconnecting Massachusetts Gateway Cities: Lessons and an Agenda for Renewal” examines how the technology boom overlooked—and was at times downright hostile to—the Boston area’s historic mill towns. Mayor Fiorentini said:

“I am bringing this group together because I’m interested in their perspectives and what lessons can be gleaned from the report for Haverhill’s continued renewal.”

Invitees, which included State Representative Brian Dempsey, David Tibbetts of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council, David Hartleb, Northern Essex Community College President, John Schneider of MassInc and Nancy Tariot of Community Action, received copies of the Report, along with a Wall Street Journal article discussing the report and a MassINC and Brookings Institution City Profile of Haverhill.
