Mayor Salutes Volunteers Who Cleaned Up the City

HAVERHILL- Mayor James J. Fiorentini saluted volunteers from many different organizations and affiliations who worked to clean up the City in various Earth Day-related activities.

“It was great to see so many volunteers taking interest and showing pride in their City by lending time out of their busy weekends to help ensure a cleaner city,” stated Mayor Fiorentini.

On Saturday, April 19, volunteers, including many students, in coordination with the City’s Department of Public Works and the City’s Human Services Office, cleaned the following fields and playgrounds:

  • Cashman Field
  • Swasey Field
  • Hunking School Field
  • Wood School grounds
  • St. James Elementary School grounds
  • Pentucket Lake School grounds
  • Bradford Elementary School grounds
  • Riverside Park

On Saturday, April 26, more volunteers, in coordination with the City’s Department of Public Works and the City’s Human Services Office cleaned the following areas:

  • 12th Avenue field
  • Winnekini Playground and Recreation Area
  • Plug Pond recreation area
  • Computer Drive
  • Middle Road
  • East Broadway
  • Millvale Conservation Area
  • Gile Street
  • Riverside Park and tennis courts
  • Nettleton Avenue
  • Christoper Columbus Park
  • Lindel Avenue
  • Green Street
  • School Street
  • Lawrence Road
  • York Street
  • River Street lot
  • Portland Street Playground
  • Granite Street Lot
  • Vale Street.

In addition, street sweepers from the Department of Public Works cleaned all of the municipal lots and the downtown central business district.

“I’d like to thank the Chamber of Commerce, their partner the Haverhill Downtown Association and all of the school groups, neighborhood associations and other entities that came together to organize and undertake the clean-up initiative. I am proud and appreciative of their efforts,” lauded Mayor Fiorentini.
