MAYOR FIORENTINI PROPOSES NAMING CITY DOCKS IN HONOR WILLIAM “RED” SLAVIT
HAVERHILL- Mayor James J. Fiorentini today proposed naming new docks to be located behind The Tap Restaurant as the “Red Slavit Municipal Docks.”
These docks will be located by the new Merrimack River Boardwalk section to be completed in 2009. New docks have been secured that will enhance recreational and commercial boating opportunities on the downtown stretch of the Merrimack River next year.
Slavit served as the City’s Harbormaster for quarter century and participated in numerous river rescues and other civic activities over the years.
The matter is before the city council tomorrow night. If approved, the docks will be named at a riverside ceremony on Saturday, September 13.
