FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

City to Host Red Sox’ World Series Trophies

HAVERHILL- Mayor James J. Fiorentini proudly announced that Haverhill would be hosting the Boston Red Sox 2004 and 2007 World Series Trophies as part of a ‘trophy tour’ sponsored by the Boston Red Sox and State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill’s Office and the Massachusetts State Lottery.

The official 2004 and 2007 World Series trophies will be brought to Haverhill on Wednesday, April 9, the day after the Red Sox’ home opener at Fenway Park. The trophies will be available for free public viewing from 11:00AM-3:30 PM at Veterans Memorial Skating Rink at 229 Brook Street, behind Haverhill High School.

“I’m thrilled that another World Series trophy is coming back to Haverhill, in the heart of Red Sox nation,” exclaimed Mayor Fiorentini. “The Red Sox were impressed when they came here after 2004, and it’s an honor that the team wished to return here to provide a free opportunity for fans to see both trophies up close. I want to thank Treasurer Cahill for working with me to bring the trophies here.”

The Mayor announced that parking for this event will be free at the rink lot. Photographs will also be allowed.

However, the trophies cannot physically be handled.

The gate that usually separates traffic from Brook Street will be opened for this event in order to accommodate safe traffic flow through the high school.

In conjunction with the trophy tour, the State Lottery announced that the new Limited Edition World Series Red Sox Instant Ticket will be available in stores April 8. This new $20 instant ticket is expected to raise $23 million in local aid, featuring more than $160 million in prizes.

“The Red Sox Instant Tickets are a big part of the Lottery portfolio and a key component in raising funds for police, firefighters, teachers and other essential municipal services,” Lottery Executive Director Mark Cavanagh said.

The trophy tour is making 30 regional stops around the Commonwealth, including Haverhill.
