Mayor Fiorentini KICKS OFF HAVERHILL TREE PLANTINGS

Mayor James J. Fiorentini celebrated Arbor Day and kicked off the Haverhill tree planting program on Monday, April 27th at the Moody School on Margin Street with the planting of an American Sycamore tree dedicated to the memory of Alex McNulty, a former student of the Moody School who died suddenly in 2006.  Alex’s parents, Janice and Rob McNulty were present and spoke at this event.

In addition to Mayor Fiorentini, members of the DPW Department were on hand with the “Arbor Bear” to bring awareness of this important day to school children at the Moody School.  The Mayor joined with Arbor Bear and read a proclamation from the City commemorating this day as well as speaking about the importance of trees in our community.

Haverhill has a long history of recognizing the need to maintain its trees as well as have a continued tree planting program and has been designated as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation for many years.  Last year, Haverhill planted upwards of 200 trees throughout the City and plans to plant an additional 30 this year.
