Mayor Fiorentini Names Linda Carleton as September of the Month
Artwork by Haverhill resident and historian in Mayor’s Office
Mayor James J. Fiorentini today named Haverhill resident and historian Linda Carleton as Haverhill’s “September 2009 Artist of the Month”.
Linda has been involved in art from a young age and is self-taught in painting and drawing. Her subjects are of local landscapes, historic persons as well as nature. As an avid historian, she is exhibiting a painting of the John Greenleaf Whittier House located in Haverhill as well as portraits of two of her ancestors who were important to Haverhill history. She is also showing a drawing of Mayor Fiorentini she presented to him previously. Linda works in oil, acrylic, watercolor pencil as well as pencil drawings.
She has participated in the recent Wet Paint Show.
Mayor Fiorentini stated:
“This September, we are showing the work of local artist and historian Linda Carleton. Linda is very knowledgeable of Haverhill history being a descendant of several early Haverhill families. Her painting of the local historic landmark of the John Greenleaf Whittier House and her portraits of James H. McKeon and James H. Carleton express that interest on our local past. I am pleased to have Linda’s work on display this month and invite all to come and see her art in City Hall.”
The Haverhill Artist of Month was created by Mayor Fiorentini to foster and profile Haverhill’s thriving art community. Haverhill artists interested in being considered for Artist of the Month can submit copies of their work and artist’s statement to the Mayor’s Office.
