Mayor tries internet sale of surplus city vehicles to boost revenues

As a means of boosting City revenues, Mayor James J. Fiorentini today announced that the City would sell its surplus vehicles over the internet to try to boost sales and increase revenues.

The City has a number of used Highway Department vehicles and used police cruisers. In the past, those were sold at a surplus auction which generally generated very little money.

This time the Mayor is trying an “internet only” sale to attempt to generate more revenue.

Fiorentini said that in a recession with deep budget cuts coming, it was necessary to be innovative:

“If we’re going to balance our budget without an override or a debt exclusion, we need to be innovative and think of new things. Auctioning used vehicles by the internet is a new innovation and one that we need to try. If it proves unsuccessful, we can always go back to the old way of doing things.”

The used vehicles can be seen at www.govdeals.com.
