Mayor Declares Week of August 16th – 22nd as Farmers’ Market Week

HAVERHILL- Mayor James J. Fiorentini today declared the week of August 16th to the 22nd as “Farmers’ Market Week” in Haverhill.

This week is designated as “Farmers Market Week” to recognize the contributions made to Haverhill by our local farmers and the Farmer’s Market, now in full swing on Saturday mornings on Bailey Boulevard.   The Farmers’ Market provides fresh, healthy food grown locally and is also a great opportunity for awareness of the local agribusinesses.

The Farmers’ Market supports the sustainability of the local family farms and provides a venue for Haverhill residents and farmers to meet and share ideas, as well as being a great place to meet and greet friends.

From 2002 to 2007, there has been a 27% increase in the number Massachusetts farms and the rejuvenation of the Farmers’ Market here in Haverhill is one way the City supports our local farmers.

“I am pleased to join with Governor Deval Patrick in recognizing the importance of our Farmers’ Market here in Haverhill,” stated Mayor Fiorentini.  “Our new and improved Farmers’ Market has been a great success and supporting local farms is good for the community, the environment and also our own health through the purchase of fresh and healthy food.

“Farmer’s Markets have long been part of our history and our culture and I invite all of Haverhill to join in recognizing our local farms and their businesses,” added the Mayor.

In particular, the Mayor thanked Kate Martin from Team Haverhill for her work in revitalizing the Farmers Market.
