FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

City Welcomes New Solar-Powered Lights at G.A.R. Park

HAVERHILL- Mayor James J. Fiorentini, State Representative Brian S. Dempsey (D-Haverhill) and Renewable Energy Trust Director Carter Wall and others today cut the ribbon on a new solar-powered lighting display that will illuminate the Veteran’s Flagpole at the G.A.R. Park in Haverhill.

The City obtained this lighting system at no cost to City taxpayers as part of a solar-powered lighting demonstration program made possible by a grant from the Renewable Energy Trust.  The installation of this system was made possible by the generosity of labor from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #103, working in conjunction with the City of Haverhill Department of Public Works.

“These lights are part of the city’s Go Green to Save Green program.  These lights serve as an important and useful symbol of our City’s commitment to save money and the environment by going green wherever possible,” Mayor Fiorentini stated.  “These solar-powered lights allow us to add lighting to that park for free, and to treat the flag with proper respect.”

Shining on the American flag near the Hannah Duston Statue and war cannon, providing additional lights for pedestrians along Main Street and in GAR Park, the SolarOne Solutions lights are 100% solar-powered, providing 7 hours of peak lighting.
