Mayor James J. Fiorentini > Press Release

“City Reforms Annual Auction Permits”

Mayor James J. Fiorentini, who has made removing regulatory barriers and faster permitting a priority, today announced that the city had made it easier to have antique auctions in the city.

Under the new law which the Mayor signed last week, it will now be possible to receive an annual permit to conduct an antique auction.  Prior to the law being signed, antique auctions require the auctioneer to appear every week before the City Council.  An antique auctioneer complained to the mayor indicating that it was virtually impossible to hold antique auctions in the city.  Mayor Fiorentini introduced an ordinance to reform and streamlines the process in May. Last week, the City Council voted for the proposed ordinance last week and the Mayor signed into law late last week.

“Regulatory reform, eliminating red tape, and making it easier for our businesses has been a priority of this administration.  Thus far we have been able to speed up the permitting for common victualler’s license, outdoor dining, death certificates, and some building permits.  We have made it easier for consumers to pay taxes, water/wastewater bills on-line.  Our latest success with our auction will not be our last.”
